I know it’s been a long hiatus. In all honesty, I wasn’t completely sure I’d come back to podcasting. In short, I had burned out a bit. I had lost a lot of my focus with the podcast and got to a point where I wasn’t putting my all into interviews. It felt, to me anyway, that TWIH had lost something.
However, many have asked when I’d be back. Many of you have told me how much you’ve enjoyed the interviews and how much you’ve learned from them. I talked with several people about new directions that TWIH could go and possible other media directions like YouTube (such as Google Hangouts on Air). There were a lot of good ideas and possibilities, but none of the new ideas really felt right.
I realized, though, that the format I have works. All of my interviews are engaging, and many are incredibly poignant. It wasn’t really the format that needed changing, but an expansion of the people interviewed.
After the election last Tuesday, I finally knew what that meant:
I needed to expand to include ALL progressive leaders who are working for inclusion, not just spiritual leaders. Given the current people in power in a lot of the western world, radical inclusion is heretical. The idea of treating each other as humans, flaws and all, is heretical. Most progressive leaders don’t get a voice, either, since more money and outlets seem to be afforded to conservative extremism. They are also just busy rolling up their sleeves and working. Their time is limited.
Now, I am hoping to find the time with these leaders and talk about their work and how they got there. One thing to come out of this election is that we need to learn from each other and we need to listen to each other. I hope that TWIH can continue to help others learn about those who are different from them and be a light in the darkness for those who have lost their faith and hope in humanity.
I plan to relaunch TWIH on Friday, January 6th, with the new series of interviews to go through mid February (about 7-8 interviews). I’d like to start interviewing folks as soon as possible.
In order to do this, I need your help. This post is an open call to all of my fans and others for suggestions on people to contact who you would like me to interview. I’m looking for leaders of progressive causes, especially ones that are working on inclusion of all people in all types of activism: LGBTQA, disability, body size, religion, sexual and affectional orientation, gender identity, and any other differences. Thinkers, doers, makers, singers (to quote Babylon 5); anyone who is doing work to better our world. If you have any suggestions for interviews, please contact me.
There will be some differences on the website and some tweaking of the opening and closing, but overall, it will be the TWIH you’re familiar with, and the mission is the same: giving voice to those who don’t normally have it.
